I shot this stately Saguaro cactus in the wilds of Arizona, north of Phoenix, in the early nineties. It's been a favorite shot of mine for a long time. Only recently, though, when I acquired the capability to manipulate shadows and highlights on the computer, have I become really proud of its potential. I like the way the darks are dark and the whites are white, like a good detergent commercial! I didn't do much digital manipulation, except to tweak the curves and the contrast a bit, and to deepen the shadow of the "objective observer" in the lower right corner.
